The FibroScan or virtual liver biopsy is an alternative diagnostic test to the percutaneous liver biopsy, performed by the Digestive System department at the Hospital Sanitas CIMA.
This new technique allows a shift from a minimally invasive diagnosis to a completely non-invasive method that assesses the degree of hardness which correlates with fibrosis (chronic hepatitis) and cirrhosis of the liver, with a view to the diagnosis and treatment of chronic hepatitis of viral aetiology.
It is a test that is performed lying on an examination table. To complete the test, the patient has to have fasted, and it must not be performed on pregnant women or patients with implantable devices. It is a private test.
